The Karabu Family

Rodgers Karabu has always lived on the Kenya coast, home of his Giriama Tribe. He has lived near the Sabaki River at this site for over 25 years. He is an accomplished fisherman and farmer, growing maize and watermelon. He is keenly interested in world and local politics and has been active in the efforts to secure land titles for the Giriama. Rodgers is a leader in the movement to conserve the estuary and has led hundreds of scientists and birdwatchers to the area. In 1998 he bought and renovated the property, which he manages with his daughters and son. Seeing his grandchildren through secondary school is a prime concern.

Guides

Rodgers and his family guide visitors to the attractions of the Malindi area. They are familiar with the birds and plants, and know the trails and neighbors. Day-long walks upriver, to distant villages, and up the coast are possible. Costs for field trips can be discussed.
